We believe wholeheartedly in the potential for social learning and transforming online education from a one-sided experience into a collaborative exchange. This is why we’re so excited for the future of Thinkific Communities!
Spaces are a simple but powerful tool that let you shape the experience you want for your students. Think of Spaces as virtual rooms within your overall Community, where you can host discussions, facilitate introductions, post important updates, invite students to share assignments, or connect however you want!
Private Spaces: Offer private, invite-only spaces within your community that foster deeper connections, meaningful collaboration, and focused engagement
Thinkific is excited to introduce Private Spaces within Communities, a new feature designed to foster deeper engagement and collaboration. While you can still create Spaces that are open to all members, Private Spaces provide exclusive areas for select groups, such as course cohorts or project teams, enabling more meaningful interactions. Members can share resources, tips, and milestones in a secure environment while keeping discussions organized and focused. By streamlining group conversations, Private Spaces enhance community engagement without cluttering the broader feed.
How to use Spaces effectively
Here are just some of the ways you can use Spaces to create a better learning experience for your students:
Private Spaces
- Breakout collaboration sessions: Foster small-group discussions in an exclusive and safe space.
- Cohort-based learning: Maintain one community while creating Private Spaces for different student cohorts.
- Workshops and seminars: Provide dedicated discussion areas for students attending invite-only workshops or seminars.
Open Spaces
- Unit-based discussions: If your course is on-demand (“asynchronous”), create a Space for each unit where students at the same stage can connect, share thoughts, and ask questions.
- Virtual water cooler: Provide a space for students to casually meet and interact.
- Office hours or AMAs (Ask Me Anything): Give students direct access to instructors in a structured setting.
Whether you’re fostering open discussions or segmenting private groups for deeper engagement, Spaces give you the flexibility to create the learning environment that works best for your community.
